Mumbai – Beauty and the Beast

Mumbai, located at the south-western coast of India, touching the Arabian sea, is the capital hub of India with a population of 21.3 million. It is famous for Bollywood (Indian movie industry),  business headquarters, and we shouldn’t forget the largest Slum, Dharavi from the famous movie Slumdog Millionaire. Millions of people pour into this city everyday, hoping that they will find a better life, but the only few out of millions can make it. This is also a reason that, it is called as “City of Dreams”.

The city once ruled by Portuguese and British, is now ruled by two kinds of people. One is the Billionaires such as Ambani, and the other one are the people who live in the Slums and way below poverty line.  The rich rules the system and organisations running from inside a building, while the other rules the streets of Mumbai. Even from economic perspective they are almost contributing in the same fashion, although the Big Boss of Mumbai has turnover of billions and billions, slums are not far behind as well, their annual turnover is over $600 million to billion plus. Being a slum, the economy is very large, and this is from only medium and small-scale industries.

Apart from this, Mumbai is also a place to visit with locations such as India gate, Thieves’ market(Chor Bazaar), Antila (the most expensive house in the world), Haji Ali(Mosque in the middle of Arabian Sea), Marine drive and many more. The city looks very beautiful and attractive but if you are not aware than the city will act like a predator and make you its prey.

The thing is that the city has many perspectives, so it depends on how you look at it. But don’t be too nice or too rude to this city, keep it normal, than it will treat you with its best.

  2. Your description of Mumbai could be applied to any large city in the U.S.– like Chicago, Illinois, Detroit, Michigan, or Houston,Texas — but especially New York City. I saw that you visited my blog, SkatingThru2012.com. Thank you! I’m sharing my personal story (Burnout to Bliss book series) as a gesture towards world peace (LOL), to give those who don’t live in the U.S. a different perspective — from one of the 98% who lead fairly ordinary lives. I appreciated reading your post and learning that the 2% is a world-wide phenomenon. Thank you!
